The Liquor Stores Association of Western Australia (LSAWA) will host its annual industry awards at a gala event tonight at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Perth, Western Australia.
While the evening has great value in bringing together industry participants with corporate, media and political stakeholders, it is also a rare chance to showcase the heavy lifting LSAWA members do for the Western Australian economy and culture.
It is not often acknowledged that the vast majority of liquor stores in Western Australia are independently-owned small businesses with real vested interests in their local communities. Many Liquor Store owners provide direct sponsorship to local sporting and social clubs as well as significant discounts and other support for those smaller clubs, fundraising committees and other community organisations like Police Legacy.
We should also reflect on the fact that the new leadership of the LSAWA has taken a strong, proactive position on community issues such as alcohol addiction and anti-social behaviour. In the coming months, our members will deservedly be recognised as leading the charge for the responsible supply of alcohol and ensuring the State has the tools it needs to ensure personal responsibility can, and is, taken by those who misuse our socially valuable and 100% legal product.
Some of the awards to be presented tonight include:
• Metropolitan Liquor Store of the Year
• Country Liquor Store of the Year
• WA Liquor Store of the Year
• Quiet Achiever Award
